Chapter 4. On the Run. Run like HELL.
Sometimes during the course of a zombie outbreak you have to flee the area. This might have been because your area is overrun, or that the place you were holed up in ran our of supplies. Crossing through zombie infested areas is the most dangerous thing one can do. You will never be safe.
Things you should do:
1. One Goal: Often people are distracted by things around them, and move to investigate. Such behaviour will get one killed. Your goal is to escape, nothing more, nothing less. If people need help, help them. You need not leave your humanity behind. However, every pause or distraction increases your chances of becoming devoured.
2. Where are you going?: Set a predetermined destination before you set out, and one that will be a safe haven. If you can, keep in radio contact with survivors constantly before and during your journey so that you know they have not been overrun.
3. Get In Shape: Train your body and cardiovascular system to meet the demands of evading zombies and for the possible arduous journey ahead. 4. Avoid Large Groups: Too many people impede mobility and increase detection by zombies.
5. Train Your Group: Every person's lives is in each others hand. Working as a team, taking advantage of each persons skills helps to increase your chances of success.
6. Keep Moving and Keep Quiet: Do not fully unpack you gear, always be ready to move quickly. Avoid loud noises and keep stealthy to avoid zombie interest.
7. Keep Alert: Always maintain vigilance of possible dangers ahead. Keep all your senses sharp.
8. Sleep: Try and get sleep when you can take it, as you need it to keep your senses and mind sharp.
9. Refrain from Overt Signals: Signaling a plane or helicopter might get them to pick you up if they see you, but more often signaling will attract zombies to you, and the zombies will get to you first. Only signal if you will be picked up right away.
10. Avoid Urban Areas: Urban areas are the most dangerous places to be. High in population, thus high in zombies as well, with many places for zombies to ambush you. Avoid them at all cost costs!
