left4dead2screenshot Valve has announced that it will be creating a second installment of its great game Left 4 Dead. The game is exclusively for the XBOX360 and PC. It makes me wonder if this new game was made because of Microsoft’s reluctance to give new content for free for the original Left 4 Dead (although they eventually allowed the content to be downloaded for free). Regardless, L4D2 will not disappoint with new weapons such as the chainsaw and a new Director AI to make levels ever interesting. Along with its atmosphere, the Director was ground breaking in making L4D always interesting, changing the flow of a the level each time. Valve has made a commitment with improving what made L4D unique in the first place:
“A large part of how Left 4 Dead became 2008′s top-selling new IP on Xbox 360 and the PC was the custom-tailored gameplay made possible by the AI Director,” said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. “With the knowledge gained from creating the original, new technology, and a passionate team, L4D2 will set a new benchmark for cooperative action games.”
I personally am excited to see how this game turns out, because of the depth and quality of the gamer experience that Valve took into consideration for the last game. Many people complained about the brevity of L4D’s playable maps, having only four different playable campaigns. L4D2 has the possibility of rectifying this problem with the promise of many more levels to play. No mention of how the multiplayer component of the game will be changed, although we can assume the 4 vs 4 players is going to remain the norm. Left 4 Dead 2 is scheduled to be released November 17th. You can read the offical post here. Also check out the trailer here. No Comments »

No other game encompasses the tension and thrill of fighting hordes of zombies running (these are the fast kind) at you and three other players working as a team to keep them at bay. Produced by Valve, known for their amazing Half-Life series, notably Half-Life 2 that set the bar higher for all games after it, with its encompassing atmosphere and physics. The production team at Valve have really handled small details in the making of this game, some of which the ordinary player would never pick up on at first. Their use of sound cues, lighting and mood all have a place in the game for practical and emotional qualities. The game’s crowning achievement is its “Director”, which is an AI that changes the placement of items and horde cues every time you play, keeping levels fresh, and rewarding or punishing people who stray too far searching for items.
